RWBY Volume 7 is amazing so far. Just when I thought the cast
of this show couldn't get bigger, the AceOps add five more
characters, and I'm constantly impressed by how this show
balances its cast and allows for lots of character moments and
evolving relationships. In this volume alone, Renora, Bumbleby,
and whatever we're calling Qrow and Clover have had great stuff,
and those are just the big ones. The growing bond between Jaune
and Marrow shown in just two scenes of them getting coffee in
the montage is incredible wordless character development.
So I've been loving this volume - it might overtake V6 as my
favourite. For now though, here's where I think the volume is
heading based on the first six episodes.
Weiss and the Winter Maiden
I'm pretty sure Weiss will become the Winter Maiden at some
point around the finale. The current Winter Maiden could
apparently die any day now, so they just need to make her aware
of Weiss for it to make sense. More and more I'm convinced all
of Team RWBY will become Maidens by the end of the story. The
most straight-forward one would be Ruby defeating her
arch-nemesis Cinder and receiving the Fall powers. There's also
Raven dying and giving Yang her Spring powers with her last
thoughts, proving she really does care about her daughter.
Honestly, if your story has a magical power that revolves around
a person's final thoughts, it just makes dramatic sense to use
it in an emotional way like to redeem a bad relationship. So
that's Ruby and Yang sorted. We know nothing about the Summer
powers but if the rest all fall into place, Summer will be for
Blake.
Weiss then would end up with Winter, and it makes
complete sense. She's been called the Ice Queen since Volume 1
after all. I'd love to see this happen, and it'd be a great
twist for the finale. As for how the transfer happens, I really
have no idea. Maybe Weiss is somehow with the Winter Maiden in
her last moments - dramatically I think that makes the most
sense. That would then start a cool arc for Weiss over the next
few volumes of her learning to master her powers like Cinder had
to do when she became Fall. Maybe Winter Schnee really will
become the Winter Maiden, but I'd love it if it was Weiss. She's
on this adventure to save the world from Salem, but she doesn't
have a personal connection with Salem herself yet. If she become
one of the Maidens, it would make Salem very interested in her
and raise the stakes of their conflict.
Amity Arena Gets Launched
No, not the app game silly, I mean the actual colosseum! That
thing is gonna get yeeted into Remnant's atmosphere becoming the
planet's first ever satellite, giving clear and open
communication to all. It's such a cool bit of worldbuilding,
both in terms of connecting up the world again and hinting at
Remnant space exploration (which is probably still a few decades
away in-universe if this is just their first satellite). I have
a feeling the volume will end with a message from Taiyang and
Zwei, or some other far away characters we haven't seen in a
while like Blake's parents, to show the world reconnecting after
the fall of Beacon. Speaking of which, we might even get a
message from Beacon saying something bad has happened there,
like Salem has found the relic.
Communication seems to be
a big thing this volume, what with Ruby keeping secrets from
Ironwood and Ironwood wanting to tell the world about Salem. I
wouldn't be surprised if the finale launches Amity Arena,
opening all communication channels, and then Ruby tells Ironwood
the truth. It'd be all thematic and stuff. Also, I don't think
Ironwood would tell anyone about Salem now after the panic in
Mantle that's already got people killed.
The Relic of Creation?
With seven episodes left (I'm pretty sure we're getting 13
this volume...), I'm not sure we'll actually see the relic in
Volume 7. It's in the opening but it's in shadow, possibly
meaning we'll get to it later. Either way, I think we'll be in
Atlas for a while - at least two volumes. There's certainly
enough story happening there, especially with Cinder, Neo, and
potentially Salem herself on the way to Atlas.
So those
are my thoughts on where we're heading. I love Volume 7 so far,
and I can't wait to see what happens next.
